Liberian President George Weah has been forced to work from home after snakes were reportedly found in the building that houses his offices in Monrovia.
Press Secretary Smith Toby confirmed that two snakes had been found in the Foreign Affairs Ministry building that houses the official working office of the president.
All staff have been asked to stay away until Monday 22 April as the building is fumigated.
“It’s just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building,” BBC news agency quotes Toby.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation,” he said.
The office of the Liberian president has been in the Foreign Affairs Ministry building since a fire gutted the nearby presidential mansion in 2006.
Toby confirmed that President Weah will return to his office on Monday, saying fumigation work had begun on Friday.
“That building’s been there for years now, and [because of] the drainage system, the possibility of having things like snakes crawling in that building was high,” he said.
